When life is getting you down, learn to cultivate your attitude.
It is easy to say we are not happy with something or remain in a negative state. A bad mood isn’t enjoyable for anyone, especially us. Learn to recognize the signs and then change your attitude.
You are the only person that can change your perspective and the way you feel. Moving from a negative state to a positive one is a choice. It takes practice, but when you do it often enough, you can change your mood more quickly.
Make a list of things that make you smile. Carry it with you. When you get drawn into a negative state, look at your list and do something on it or call up a memory. I like to sing and dance or talk to a friend. Sometimes, I’ll put a comedy channel on if my mood is sad and needs changing.
People in a negative state usually think in terms of ‘I can’t, I don’t’ or ‘I’m not.’ These lead us to places where we are sad, frustrated and, at times, angry. We hold an unfavourable outlook and the mood associated with it.
Other things that can affect our mood are whether we get enough rest and eat a balanced diet. When we are tired, we may become cranky and short-tempered. It may even take another person pointing it out for us to notice.
The good news is that we can control our emotions, the words we use and our attitude towards just about everything. We can change, stretch, and grow our attitude, shaping it and pushing it. When we do this, we become happier, have a more positive attitude and are easier to be around.
People don’t want to be around someone who’s in a constant negative state and is always pessimistic. They want to be around people who make them feel good.
When you feel good and hold a positive outlook, you are not only in a positive state; you are happier and more peaceful. People enjoy your company.
Being able to change our attitude towards something is as easy as changing our shoes. You just need to look at things from a different perspective. There are always more sides to an image or thought than just the first one you look at or think of.
If you find yourself thinking, ‘I can’t,’ let yourself imagine what would happen if you could. If it brings you joy, shift your thinking and start working toward the ‘I can.’
When life gets you down, pick yourself up and start again. If your attitude is negative, change it. You are in control, and only you can cultivate your attitude.
