We are what we believe and the beauty of it is that we can change the picture we have of ourselves any time we wish. Call it a mental makeover. When you change your picture for the better, life will become more enjoyable. Choose every day to be happy and never forget that you were made to shine.
When you have a poor self image of yourself, or low self esteem, you believe what you think about yourself. If you believe that you can’t, then you won’t, in fact, you won’t even try. However, if you believe in yourself you can do an unimaginable amount of positive and enjoyable things with your life.
If you have been struggling with sadness, change your thought patterns. Start by thinking about something that makes you happy, something you can easily do to uplift your spirits, then go do it. Once your mood changes, say to yourself that this is how I will feel when I wake up. Our attitude and emotional behaviour is all within our control. If you wake up and start thinking you will be bored, sad, etc then you will. When you wake up and say I choose to be happy today, then you will. Hum a little song to yourself as you get ready or put on some music that makes you feel good. Carry that feeling without you throughout the day.
I am a firm believer if you are doing things daily that you do not enjoy you have two choices
- Change what your are doing
- Change your attitude
Change What You Are Doing
You can either go through life complaining because you don’t like your job, or your situation or you can start taking steps to change it. Find something you love and find a way to make money at it.
You don’t have to quit your job, especially if you don’t have another one lined up, but you can start looking into what you really want. Figure out if you need to take additional training, or even go back to school. There are many online schools out there, find one and get started.
Almost every topic can be searched on Google. There are so many ‘how to’ posts online it is almost impossible not to find what you are looking for. If you are a visual learner there are also a lot of instructional videos on You Tube.
Think of it this way, if you are still complaining about life six months from now, that is six months you had to work towards making your life better. You could have completed courses, learned something new, or started volunteering. Recognize that if you choose to do nothing you are choosing to remain unhappy. Time passes anyway, you might as well put it to good use.
Change Your Attitude
If, for whatever reason you cannot change your situation then change how you think about it. You may not like your job or where you live but you can find ways to feel better about it. The easiest is living with an attitude of gratefulness. Your job pays the bills, provides food and hopefully shelter, rather than be negative about it, become thankful for it. Usually you have friends that you talk to at work. Odds are that you wouldn’t know them if you didn’t have your job. Be grateful that your job brought you together.
Find ways throughout your day to add laughter into your routine, not just for you but for your friends. Laughter always makes you feel better. You not only lift up your own spirits, you lift those of your coworkers.
Life is always better when you are smiling. When you get to work or start your day, start it with a smile. Your smile will be contagious. When people see you smiling it also lifts their spirits and sometimes makes them smile.
So, if life is getting you down, pick yourself up. If you see the world as boring and dreary, change your mindset. Choose to be happy and begin to change your picture for the better.
