Every once in a while, you need to stop and check in on yourself.
Just like a car needs a checkup, we too need to stop and do a self-check. We need to spend some quiet time with ourselves and touch base with our inner being. How are we doing? Are we happy or sad, grateful or bitter, inspired or stagnant?
Only you can answer these questions for yourself. You are the only one who knows how you are doing. Your mental well being is essential. It sustains you.
When you look inward, calm yourself with slow, deep breaths. Sit in a quiet spot, somewhere you are comfortable, and take a few minutes to journey within. Breathe in and out, tuning out all external sounds. Focus only on the sound of your breath. Find your place of calm, your centre.
Relax your shoulders, your body and continue breathing. If it helps, put on some soft, gentle music or sounds of nature. Once you feel relaxed, do a self-assessment. How does your body feel? Are there areas of tension? If yes, breathe in and out, focusing on those areas, allowing them to relax and release the tension.
Next, focus on how you feel. Are you content? If not, ask yourself why. What is preventing you from being happy? Make a mental note of the answer. Welcome it, accept it and then look deeper. Is there anything else?
Continue to breathe and relax, allowing thoughts to come and go as you do your status check. Look for blockages, discover what roadblocks are in your path and then consider removing them gently. Forgive past hurts, permit yourself to be happy, all the while continuing to breathe in and out.
Once you are ready, open your eyes. If you need to write down what you discovered during your health check, do it. Do not judge or try to fix it, but just to capture. Once you’ve done that, allow yourself one more moment and think of something that brings you joy. Hold on to that feeling as you go about your day.
When you are ready, you can go to your list and start to work on mending damaged areas, refilling your soul with love and light all the while.
Never forget that you are worth looking after. Make sure to do a wellness health assessment and check in on yourself.
