Quiet Your Mind

Quiet your mind

Quiet your mind and look inside, drawing on your Spirit for strength and comfort in difficult times.

Everyone gets overwhelmed at times, you are not alone. When things get too busy or hectic, sometimes all you need is to shut off the outside world, quiet your mind, even if just for a little while, and retreat.

We all struggle with ramped up emotions at times. External noise, and other people can create confusion, frustration, self doubt and a slew of other overwhelming emotions. The key is to be able to calm yourself when this happens.

Knowing how to shut off, or turn down, the emotions that cause you to be anxious is a handy tool to have in your knowledge bank. The key is to start slowly so you can build the habit. Like anything, meditative states take practice to obtain.

Breathe

First, start by slowing down your breathing, taking deeper, longer breathes. Focus on each breath flowing in and out of your body. Close out all external noise so it slowly fades into the background until you don’t even notice it. This will start to relax you.

Let Your Thoughts Go

Next, let whatever thoughts come into your mind flow. Look at each one and then let it go until you slowly begin to enter the quiet space of your thoughts, where ideas are not yet born. This allows you to know there are thoughts continually occurring and that is okay. Your thoughts don’t have to be at the forefront all the time. Continue breathing and start to focus on these keys words, peace, calm, serene.

Find Your Light

As you begin to relax, journey further inside to the source of your light. This is the greatest place of peace and calm you will find. Envision the light, feel its’ warmth encircling around you, flowing in, out and through you with every breath. Draw on this light for your strength. Become familiar with the feeling, the calm and peace.

Set Your Mantra

When you reach this state, tell yourself that you are strong, you are courageous and brave, you can handle anything as long as you have the light of your Spirit within and around you. Let those words become your mantra … peace, calm, courageous, brave.

Surrender To Love

Surrender yourself to the love of the Spirit within you. Feel the joy, the happiness and love that flows through you. Embrace it, hold on to it. You can draw on this as a source of strength in times of trouble, sadness, anxiousness, or fear. It can ease any overwhelming emotions you may experience.

Practice Makes Perfect, Don’t Give Up

While meditation takes practice, once you have the hang of it you can quickly draw upon it to calm yourself down in any situation. Just by closing your eyes, taking a few deep breaths in and out, and look internally toward the Spirit, you can feel the sense of calm that comes.

Everyone has a slightly different approach to meditation. For me, knowing the source of light – my Spirit – is a gift and direct link to God, brings comfort. I can easily take a few breaths, focus on the light, in and around me, and I am calmer and more at peace.

You can call on this same inner strength to calm you at any time, all you need do is to quiet your mind.
