There Is An Awakening

Finding Peace

There is an awakening occurring. The world is no longer willing to stand by and watch while atrocities are carried out.

Too many times have people stood and watched, saying nothing. Now is the time for all to stand up and say it’s enough. We will not accept ignorance, injustice and hatred any longer.

All people, regardless of race, religion or gender, must be allowed to live in peace. It is not ours to judge and say that some are lesser. No one is lesser, all are equal.

It doesn’t matter what your job or what the colour of your skin is. What matters is that you are kind and loving, compassionate and accepting, willing to use your talents for the good of all.

I often hear people talk of acceptance, but they mean tolerance. This is wrong. People are not to be tolerated because they are different from you or me. They are to be loved and accepted. Accepted means embracing and loving them for who they are, as they are.

There is a growing awareness, an awakening and the light is being shone on the errors of the past. It is a time of learning and discovery. We can not change or erase the past. What we can do is learn from it and do better, be better.

When the people of the future look back, and they see your legacy, it too will have times, small moments, that you wish you could erase. We all make mistakes. Sometimes even in trying to do what is right, we make a poor decision or carry out an act that harms another.

As you look through your lens at the past and find the mistakes made by our ancestors, don’t forget that you, too, will be one. Keep the lens also focused on yourself and live with love and kindness.

One of my favourite passages is when Jesus stands in front of a girl who stood accused and asked those who were without sin to cast the first stone. The stones were dropped. Why? Because we, too, are not without sin. Remember this as you judge the acts of others.

I am not saying turn a blind eye to violence. People need to be legally held to account when a crime has been committed. What I am saying is learning and growth are better than harsh actions. Violence, graffiti and destruction are not the paths to peace and acceptance.

Shine the light but do not harm those of today for the mistakes of those from our past. Do not create new hatred or prejudice. Be a positive pressure of change.

A shift is in progress—an awareness like no other. There is a movement, a time for a new beginning and change is in progress. Move forward with love and find hope knowing that there is an awakening.
