In My Sorrow

In my sorrow
I feel loss
tears cascade down my cheeks
yet I have known joy

My sadness, a sign
that I have loved
and have been loved
and lost

In my sorrow
I feel empty
but also I feel hope
that love will turn the tide

My longing, a sign
that I have not quit
a simple belief
that things can still change

In my sorrow, I remember
that faith will carry us
and shine a light
so the lost can return

My hope, a beacon
that will shine
until a time
when life is at an end

Others have felt this pain
known the loss
yet to each
it is different

No one knows
the pain, the ache
that abides here
in my sorrow
