Do yourself a favour and wrap yourself in love, hope and joy and you will find peace.
It is easy to find fault with oneself and to focus on the negative. This however does us no good. It is only upsetting, adds stress and often, brings with it sadness and self-loathing. These are all negative emotions.
Negative emotions are unhealthy and lead to underlying conditions. Sadness can turn to depression if left untended. It is better to focus on the positive and strengthen the good things in our lives.
Focus on those who love you. Find joy in the simple pleasures rather than the material things and never lose hope when times are tough.
Focusing on Love
Rather than focusing on the people who do not love, pay attention to the ones that do. There are friends and family who love you. They would do anything for you if you asked or were in need. Think of them when you are sad and feeling lonely or unloved.
Love yourself! Love each and every imperfection as it is what makes you wonderfully unique. Your talents, your smile, your laugh are all beautiful as is your heart. Be gentle and do not listen to the consumerism of the world that tries to paint a stereotypical view of what beauty looks like.
Finding Joy
There are many ways you can find joy in this world, even in these Covid times. The beauty of a sunset or sunrise, the soft white flakes of snow or the gentle warm breeze carried on the wind. Each season brings its own beauty.
Think about what brings you joy and find a way to put it at the forefront of your day. Yes, we may not be able to gather together but we can Zoom, Skype or FaceTime.
While you are looking for joy, bring it to others. A simple smile, hello or small gesture can bring joy to another. Make it a point to make someone smile each day. As you bring joy to others so too will others bring joy to you.
Hold onto Hope
When things are bad there is always the possibility that they will get better. Never lose hope. No one is lost to us forever. Even if lost in our lifetime, they will be reunited with us when we journey home. If you are down and out and struggling it is hard to see the light at the end of the road but it is there. The sun always shines behind the clouds whether you see it or not.
My faith is strong. I don’t just believe, I know that all things are possible through God and because of that there is always hope. Just because we don’t know or understand why something is happening doesn’t mean we should quit believing. What if Jesus had said this is too hard, I can’t go on. He gave the ultimate gift in his sacrifice which opened the door for us and with that opening came hope.
So, as you begin a new year or when times are tough and you feel down, wrap yourself in love, hope and joy and you will find peace.
