Let Go Of Resentment

Let go of resentment, and you will find peace at work and in life.

Resentment can originate from many things. When we resent the fact that someone else gets ahead of us in life or gets a job we believe we are more qualified for, we become bitter. In this situation, resentment is just jealousy wrapped in a bow.

Perhaps other people get further ahead because they are better at doing something than us. Sometimes, we can be really good at our job, but that doesn’t mean we have all the leadership skills required to run a team.

It is better to ask yourself and the manager what you can do differently or what skill you need to build on to secure a leadership position in the future if that is your goal. If your manager isn’t forthcoming, ask another manager. Don’t focus on why someone you think may be unqualified, moved forward; focus on yourself.

Leaders see a problem and can associate the financial cost to it and bring an alternate solution to not only fix the problem but improve the bottom line. They don’t whine or complain that there is a problem; they look at them as opportunities. Some even test their theories out first, or they fix the problem and show the results, letting them speak for themselves. Leaders also help and nurture others long before they become leaders.

Anger is another emotion that can turn into resentment. Left untended, it can eat away at you, eventually making you ill. When something is bothering you, it is essential to discuss it. Nothing can be corrected or fixed without open and honest communication.

When you let it fester, like a boil, it will blister until it spurts forth in anger. You may say and do things that you usually wouldn’t. For some, the feelings become so intense that they erupt in violence.

Resentment has caused people to lose their jobs, ruined families and marriages and broken lifelong friendships. It turns an otherwise happy person into one that only complains and is sullen and unhappy.

Give yourself the gift of peace and let go of resentment.
