We Aren’t Born to Suffer

We aren’t born to suffer. I heard these words today, and they touched me, moved me in fact, to write this post.

Life isn’t meant to be hard. Sometimes we spend so much time worrying, working, and hurting that we forget to love ourselves and love life.

We were born to shine. To share our unique set of talents with the world and to live our passion. Instead, we get caught up in being what we think we want others to be. Why? The simple answer is because we want to be accepted.

Everyone wants to be accepted and loved for who they are, but instead of being that person, we change. There is a shift at some point in our early years where we stop being the free-spirited, loving child and start trying to be what society dictates.

We stay in abusive relationships, we take part in self-loathing, and we begin to suffer. Every day we suffer, we shut down our true authentic selves just a little more until one day there is little left of us to shine.

When you begin to suffer, you start reprogramming your mind to think this is your life; this is your new normal. You begin to believe this is how it will be and accept the situation.

The reality is you were not meant to live a life of pain. Your made to shine and be joyful; to love and be loved. So, how do you move from a painful life to a joyful one? One step at a time.

You need to rewire your thinking, replacing the negative with the positive. Start by making a list of all the positive emotions you felt as a child. Don’t just write them down; feel them, in your heart, in your mind, and hold them close to you.

Next, remember what you used to do that made you happy and brought you joy; when your spirit was free to shine, you glowed. See that smile and the activity associated with it. Make a list of all the things you like to do and then pick one and do it.

Begin doing more until you find one that stands out. Something you can be passionate about. Figure out a way to bring that passion and joy into your life every day. You can find the time if you really want to.

Decide today. Begin the shift from a painful life to a joyful one. If we start to hesitate or fear change, we must remind ourselves that we aren’t born to suffer.
