Sometimes You Need to Dig Deep

Sometimes you need to dig deep

Sometimes you need to dig deep when things aren’t going your way. Know that you have it within you to weather the storm.

There could be many reasons you need to dig deep for strength. Sometimes it is required when you are losing your patience. You’ve tried over and over again to get your point across to the other person, telling them what they are doing is aggravating you but they still keep pushing. You try to ask them nicely to stop, but still they keep going, keep pushing. Know that you have it within you to get through without sinking to their level. Keep your cool, say a little prayer and redirect the other person if you can. If you can’t, perhaps walk away.

Other times, you may be trying to figure out a problem but the answer or solution keeps evading you. Change your focus and do something else for a little while but don’t give up. Dig in and you will persevere. The answer will come when it is meant to. Enjoy the process you are in as you are most likely learning as you go (even if it is what not to do).

There are definitely times you don’t want to keep digging and need to just let go. It is important to be able to recognize them. If you are in situation of violence where you are in danger, digging deep means getting up the strength and the courage to leave, it doesn’t mean staying and continuing to put yourself, or your children, in harms way.

When you are trying to live a new routine, whether it be taking on a fitness regime, changing to healthier eating habits, quitting smoking, digging deep is what gets you through the rough patches.

Once in a while we need to dig deep just to get through the day. The world as we know it has changed due to the pandemic and we have had to change everything. Find comfort in knowing you are not alone. Everyone has had to dig deep to get through some of their days. Many people are lonely and sad. Stay connected, find ways to bring joy into your life and pray. Be like that little fish, keep your head up and keep on swimming.

If your faith is firmly planted it will run deep and hold you up through the tough times. One of my favourite sayings is that when God leads you on rocky paths he provides sturdy shoes. Our shoes may need to be resoled but God will do it. When the enemy pursues you, dig into your faith and the light will overcome the dark.

Life can be tough, jobs can be frustrating and relationships can be challenging. This is a fact, accept it and remember that when these things happen sometimes you need to dig deep.
