Sometimes you need to let go in order to receive. A full cup cannot hold anymore until it is emptied, even if only a little.
Sometimes we hold on to things so tightly that we have no room for something new. Whether it is things from our childhood , loved ones or something else, often holding on too tight results in having no room in our hearts for anything else.
If you hold too tightly to a glass it can break. This is true of people too. If you hold on too tight you smother the other person. This results in negative feelings and emotions and the end result of holding too tight is resentment, sometimes anger and loss of relationship. You end up smothering the one thing you were trying so desperately to hold tight to.
The same is true of anger. If you hold on to your anger towards another person, it turns to bitterness and can cause you health issues. You become so angry all the time that people don’t enjoy being around you, and although you don’t mean to, you start to push people away.
If you can’t resolve an issue, or are dealing with difficult problems with another person sometimes the answer can be found in prayer. Let go and let God take on the emotions, the hurt, and the problem. When you do this sometimes you can step back and see a way out of the situation.
An open hand can receive many wonderful gifts, a closed fist receives nothing. Remember this and know that sometimes you just have to let go.
