Oh weeps my soul
ever aching
for the injured
the threatened
and all those lost
I hear your cries
feel your tears
see your sorrow
such destruction
so high the cost
Treasures
and trinkets
memories
gathered year
after year
Left in the moment
as you flee
looking for safety
while the world
sheds a tear
The old and the young
the healthy and lame
no one is free
from the ravaging
and pain
Babies crying
toddlers in tow
while you run
fleeing to safety
as bullets rain
The bombs drop
explosions that rock
and kill
destroying all
while you try to sleep
Yet, stand
and protect
you face the foe
knowing for him,
there is no clean sweep
For the farmer knows
and the farmer tows
the people stand
a barricade
to protect their land
United is your strength
courage welling up
rising with bravery
gaining momentum
while you take a stand
The enemy fooled
surrender themselves
as truth reveals
that the lies they were fed
is the real fake news
Many warn home
that the mission is wrong
they are not liberating
just killing their neighbours
based on one corrupt man’s views
Brothers, sisters
husbands and wives
parents and children
hastily torn apart
never to know
What is to become
of their war-ravaged homes
a place where they lived
where it was always,
always safe to go
Unsure of a future
so many are lost,
lost to the entrails
taken too young
injured beyond repair
The seeds of war
scattered and sown
blow across the wind
the stench hanging,
filthily in the air
And, here I stand
watching and listening
crying with you
as I see war
takes it toll
I pray
for you, and for them
for an end, and healing
God, save them, forgive them
Oh weeps my soul
