And So, I Escape

My fears stalk me,
haunting my dreams,
chasing my thoughts,
and so, I escape.

Seeking distraction
in words and shows,
where my mind can redirect,
yet, fear rewinds the tape.

Worry chases fear,
barking on its heels,
threatening to overtake,
and so, I escape.

Dancing to lift the mood,
singing all the favourite songs,
and thinking happy thoughts,
until tears begin to shape.

The memories flood in,
past hopes and dreams,
sadness crushing all,
and so, I escape.

Talking with friends,
giving praise and thanks,
with gratitude for it all,
taking comfort in God’s cape.

I cannot repeat it any longer,
the story of the lost one,
my son, missing for days,
and so, I escape.
