The Gifts That Last

There are many gifts you will receive throughout your life, but the ones you remember are the gifts that last. These are the gifts that last, that keep on giving long after you have left.

Perhaps the greatest gift of all is love. Love from a parent, sibling, friend, sweetheart, spouse and occasionally a stranger. This is a gift that lingers in our hearts forever.

When we experience love from another, in its purest form, it is honest, open and inviting. It creates a lasting imprint on our hearts and memories from which we can draw on when that person is no longer near.

Laughter is another great gift that eases the spirit and lifts us up. We feel lighter when we laugh and our stresses of the day melt away. There is nothing better than sitting with some friends, talking and sharing laughter.

It is funny how hearing laughter of another can make us smile, and sometimes even creat laughter in response. Laughter is contagious and infectious in a very good way. Hearing a child giggle, full of glee and pure joy makes ones heart smile. Seeing or hearing someone laugh uncontrollably from something that tickles their funny bone also gets us going.

A warm embrace during troubled times is another of life’s great gifts. A hug, meant to comfort and make you feel safe; safe to cry, wrapped in a blanket of love from another.

We hug because we care. We hug to comfort another and desire nothing but to be hugged in return if and when we need it. These days it is harder for the huggers of the world so we must find other ways to comfort and wrap our invisible arms around someone.

There are many gifts such as these. Ones that build memories and make us smile on a day when we are isolated or sad. Draw from them when you need comfort. A listening ear, a helping hand, spending time with someone who is alone and has no one are all more gifts that give after given.

You can buy expensive things and they may bring joy in the moment. These are just material objects though, that fade and disappear over time.

Love and laughter lasts longer and lives on in our hearts and our memories. These are the gifts that last.
