Contribute What You Can, When You Can

You Can a Change Your Path

Don’t just take up space in life, contribute what you can when you can.

Every little thing you can do to make someone else’s life easier is important. Not everything has to be a big or grand gesture. Look for the opportunities to help when you can. Whether it be a family member, friend, or complete stranger, there is always someone who needs our help.

When you contribute to the community you are not only helping the community, you’re helping yourself. You will shine brighter and feel good about yourself.

Not everything requires money, sometimes giving of your time is just as important. Helping a neighbour, carrying groceries for a senior or sitting with them for company goes a long way. There are all kinds of volunteer opportunities in every community, one just has to look. It can be on your schedule, when you have time. There are also many seniors in retirement residences that have no one to visit them. Just ask at the front desk. These days visiting is harder to do but as it opens there will be opportunities. Just sit and chat, read a book to them, play a game of cards, anything to bring joy to their day.

The young adults with several children will be forever grateful to someone who has paid for their groceries. They may say it isn’t necessary but you can usually tell when they are in need. It doesn’t have to be a lot but if you are blessed enough to be able to afford it occasionally it is well worth the spend. It can even be as simple as buying a small toy for a young child who is very well behaved and giving it to them in line.

When we are able to help others and yet choose to do nothing, it makes us self-centered. There is no pleasure in the long run for people who only think about themselves and things eventually will become very lonely. No one likes to hang around someone who only cares about their own interests. People eventually leave if all you do is think about yourself.

All relationships are two way, and that should include relationships with strangers. If we set the example, others will follow. Make it an item on your list to do something nice for someone else every week.

Give from the heart and you will be rewarded tenfold. We are a global family and families help one another out. Never be so self-centered that you forget others. Always contribute what you can, when you can.
