Boogeymen Are In Fact Real

I used to think that boogeymen weren’t real. Children’s stories meant to frighten one into not getting out of bed. As I grew older, I realized the truth. Boogeymen are in fact quite real, and scarier than anything we could imagine.

They are disguised as ordinary people, but those who can see through the veil know the truth. They walk in plain sight among us. Disguised as ordinary people, they hide their truth until they can’t. Pedophiles, murderers, rapists, thieves, abusers, bullies. The list goes on.

Power-hungry people, fed by ego and greed, who seek to rule over those they deem less worthy are included in this list. They start wars, starve their people, and make enemies without care. They harm children without warrant, and tear families apart. They abuse the most vulnerable instead of protecting them. Led by fear and deprivation, taking all they can for themselves and their friends is their motto. Be warned. They will turn on a dime against their friends if they suspect dissension.

So what then is one to do? Should we just sit back and let the boogeymen roll over us like an asphalt roller? No, we must protect the innocent and stand for truth and justice. Our voices must be heard around the world when something is vehemently wrong. Most importantly, we must pray.

You may think that prayer has no power over the boogeyman, but you’d be wrong. Light has always been what the dark is most afraid of. The light removes the cloak’s power, revealing the ugly truth. Prayer can soften the hardest heart and make the weakest person strong. It can heal and soothe.

Pray for the protection of the innocent, and for peace. Pray a circle of protection around those you love, and yourselves. Most importantly, and hardest of all – pray for the boogeymen of the world. Pray that their hearts might be changed.

Ask for forgiveness for them and forgive them in the process. Sometimes, we must ask for the strength and courage that is required of us in order to prayer for our abusers. Forgiving someone who has hurt you repeatedly, in the worst possible ways, for many, is hard.

It takes courage, compassion, and love to forgive boogeymen. Loving your family and friends is easy. Doing the same for your enemy is hard, but that is what has been asked of us. To love thine enemy as He has loved us.

Jesus showed the way when he healed the ear of the soldier. Malchus, who had come to deliver Jesus down the path toward his death, was worthy of his compassion. It also saved his disciple from possible prosecution. In healing him, he forgave him, and saved his friend at the same time. Perhaps too, it shows us that spiritual love is stronger and more important than earthly love, or vengeance.

So, if you think you are too far away, or it won’t make a difference, I’m asking you to pray anyway. We need to become prayer warriors for the world. Pray for the boogeymen to have their own childhood hurts healed. Ask for their hardened hearts to be changed and softened. Pray for them to be released from the demons clinging to their backs. If you struggle to do it, pray for assistance in praying. You can ask Him anything.

My prayer for you is that you find peace, healing and salvation through the compassionate love of forgiveness.
