When one lives in despair, life can seem hopeless, but there is always a way to move from despair to hope through choice.
Each of these emotions is a state of being, a way we are choosing to live. When we live in despair, we do not believe that good things are possible for us. Life can be scary and overwhelming. It’s hard to believe that one would choose to remain in this state, but when you are without hope, even for a short period, you get lost in the darkness of despair.
It is important to remember that you can choose to leave this state. You can choose to be hopeful. When one has hope, they will try different things. This allows them to find solutions to their problems. They understand that one way may not work, but another will.
Hope really is the idea that certain outcomes, events, and goals are attainable. So why is it that one person has hope while another despairs? I believe it is because of two things:
Patterning
We pattern ourselves after those who raise us, and what we see. If our parents are stuck in dead-end jobs, with no desire to go anywhere, and spend most of the time telling us there is no point, we naturally will lose hope.
If, on the other hand, our parents try different things until they get the desired results, they show us it is possible to achieve your goals. They don’t give up because they are hopeful.
Even if you live in a household of despair, you can choose to have hope. You can choose to break the pattern and walk a new path.
Faith
Faith plays a big role in living life in a hopeful state. When we know that with God, all things are possible, we have no choice but to be hopeful.
When you live a faith-based life, you hand your problems and challenges to God and trust that he will help you. It is when we don’t trust him fully to make changes that despair settles in. The enemy always looks for a way to dim your light, and losing hope is one of the easiest ways for him to do it.
When you have faith, there are still challenges and roadblocks that you will face. This is how we grow. Sometimes, God places a roadblock in front of us to prevent us from going down the wrong path; a path not meant for us.
The choice is always yours. You can choose to live a life where everything is possible and you can experience joy, or you can choose to live a life of despair. The choice is yours. Just remember that there is always a way to move from despair to hope if you are willing to change your state of mind and step out of the chains that bind you.
