If I bare my soul
will you comfort
or will you laugh
and scorn away
while I reveal
my pain, my fears
that I work so hard
to keep at bay
If I bare my soul
will you shelter it
embracing it tenderly,
holding it in your hands
or will you discard
and disdain it
leaving it in tattered
worn-out strands
If I bare my soul
will you see it
in the innocents
of a child
or will you ignore
and avoid it
like a mangy mutt
gone wild
If I bare my soul
will you hold me
while I try to stand
on my own
or will you push
and shove me over
holding me down
hiding the seed unsown
If I bare my soul
will you love me
and see the saviour
Lord, God within
or will you hate
and belittle me
pummelling me continually
with an evil snarly grin
If I bare my soul
can I trust you
not to damage
or bring me harm
but to love me
simply as I am
holding me close
with childlike charm
If I bare my soul
know I trust you
to walk in peace
awhile with me
so we can love
each other fully
as He intended
it to always be
