If things aren’t working, rewire your thinking.
Often, we get in our way. We become stuck by old habits and beliefs that no longer serve us. The beautiful thing about this life, though, is that we can choose to change the way we think.
If you are negative and always look at the worst possible scenario in your life, switch it around. Look for the positive. What would life be like if everything went the way you wanted it to?
You have to ask yourself what is stopping you from living your authentic life, the life you were meant to live, with purpose and joy. List all the roadblocks, and then start looking at how to remove them.
You can’t remove them all at once, but you can remove them one at a time. Believe it is possible and start. When you do this, you will find that you slowly are moving closer to the life you want and your joy and away from negativity and unhappiness.
There is a shift that happens when we start to reprogram our thoughts. We discover that happiness isn’t something attached to things but rather a joy in living and fulfilling our purpose.
We each have a purpose in this life and have been given a specific set of talents (skills) that will help us fulfill this purpose. Unfortunately, we are programmed from a young age to associate joy with things.
We get presents, and there is excitement. Oohs and ahhs as we open gifts. It is only natural we begin to relate that other people are happy when we get things, material things, and therefore this should make us happy. Wrong, wrong, wrong. It is not the gifts but the joy of giving. Our young minds can’t always distinguish the difference. The giver wants us to be happy whether we should be or not.
Television and advertisers also push the image of happiness tied to things. Buy this product, and you’ll be happy, take these pills, eat this food, wear these clothes, all designed to make you believe you will be satisfied. Once we begin to understand and see it for what it is we can break the ties that bind us to this way of thinking.
When we use our talents in the service of others, we can discover true happiness. We are fulfilled, doing what we love. Truly, it is in the service of others where the joy is to be found. It doesn’t matter the skill or the service as they are all different.
You can choose to go through life struggling and unhappy, or you can decide to change your mindset. Look at the positive and live with gratitude in your heart for what you do have.
The choices are yours. If you are unhappy and don’t like how things are going, perhaps it is time to rewire your thinking.
