Second Chances

At one point or another in our life we all need a second chance. Everyone makes mistakes and needs the opportunity to try again and do better the next time.

As children we learn by making mistakes and are given many chances to get things right, however many are less willing to give a second chance to someone who has wronged them as an adult. There is a ‘fool me once’ attitude, but love requires us to forgive, both for ourselves and for others.

So what then, when someone errs over and over again? Do we just walk away and give up on them? What if it were your child? Many would say enough is enough, but love is and should be unconditional and knows no bounds. Sometime that love must occur at a distance for a while but when the opportunity presents itself, another chance must be given as long as it is safe for you to do so.

The person being forgiven often needs to forgive themselves. When we distance ourselves from someone, it hurts them, as much as it does us although we don’t always see it.

I would never suggest for anyone to put themselves in harms way but if it isn’t a dangerous situation and the person has tried to make a change then I would suggest a second chance is worth a look. Not every situation is the same, you can forgive without accepting someone back into your life, but everyone at least needs an opportunity to make amends, even if from a distance.

True love, unconditional love knows no bounds and always offers a second chance.
