I kissed you in my dreams last night,
I held your hand in mine;
we talked and laughed throughout the night,
and sat beneath the pine.
When I awoke, I felt so lost,
for you were not with me;
I heard you whisper in my ear,
I’ll wait beneath our tree.
I stumbled on throughout the day,
the sense of loss grew great;
I heard you whisper once again,
I’m here, you need to wait.
I did my chores and went to bed,
but then I could not sleep;
I tossed and turned, rest would not come,
and I began to weep.
I cried for the life we both lost,
my heart broke at the seams;
for now I can only meet you,
and kiss you in my dreams.
I did not wake when morning came,
for God had heard my plea;
I met you there beneath our pine,
where you waited for me.
You held me in your arms so tight,
I thought I’d surely burst;
You placed a kiss upon my lips,
as if it were our first.
We strolled across eternity,
and dance on moonlit beams;
I only looked back once to where,
I kissed you in my dreams.
