If you are going to be successful at anything, you must hold yourself accountable.
Committing to build or break habits takes dedication, but it also requires accountability. You can say you will do something as much as you want, but if you don’t take consistent action, you will not see results.
When you don’t hold yourself accountable, you get lazy and let yourself off the hook. Change usually requires some kind of effort and action. If you say ‘not today’ and start delaying action, you begin to lose focus.
When you procrastinate, whether it be because of fear or something else, you start to focus on other things. This causes you to miss out on the opportunity of reaching your goal. If, however you hold yourself accountable, procrastination is impossible.
Your success or failure falls solely on your shoulders. No one can do the things you need to do for you; the action alone must be yours. Yes, others can cheer you on and even agree to partake in activities with you, but in the end, you have to step through the door.
You must be accountable for everything, the good and the bad. If you own the poor decisions of the past, you begin to realize that you don’t have to keep repeating the same mistakes. You are in control. Once you understand this, life begins to change. You realize that happiness is a choice.
Take stock of how you feel when you are not living authentically, and then experience how you feel when you are. There is no comparison. When we struggle, we often begin to shut down or become depressed, and lack energy. We do not enjoy the process when we do things that go against our natural grain.
When we live authentically and hold ourselves accountable, life is more joyful. We are happier, and life is fun. We have more energy because we are living with joy and happiness. We live with purpose and passion.
Find your passion, use your God-given talents and live the joyful life you were meant to live. Once you know what you want to do and what brings you joy and energizes you, make a list. These are the things that will help you live a more fulfilled life.
Make a promise to yourself, a commitment to do what it takes to be the best ‘you’ that you can be, and then hold yourself accountable.
