Be Your Own Light

In life we must be responsible for ourselves. This is a given fact that we come to realize as we enter into adulthood. It is also true that we cannot lay our happiness at the feet of another. We must be our own light.

Figuring out what brings us true joy is not always easy. People often confuse surface, material things as bringing happiness and joy. While that may be true in the moment, the happiness fades as our possession is no longer new. We then start looking for something that can replace it so we can be happy again. This will put you in a never ending search for joy.

The same is true with love, people often confuse sex for love. True love is without limits and has no end. If a person wrongs you or walks away, you don’t stop loving, you start hurting. This means that although we may love and be loved we cannot put the others person love for us as the whole of our happiness.

You need to find out what truly brings you joy, at a deep and personal level; a spiritual level where you live and walk the path you were meant to follow. When we do this we find joy. It can be seen on our face, in our eyes and in our words. When we find this joy we shine, and when we shine the world becomes a little bit brighter.

When we try to walk the path of another, or live the dreams of someone else we are not being true to ourselves, unless that happens to be the path we truly want for ourselves, not the path of duty or obligation.

So, if you are living your dream and following the path you were meant to take, I’m very happy for you. You will have a life of joy. Why, because a life led as meant is not laborious or onerous, it is joyful. This doesn’t mean you won’t have to work hard at times, but when you do, you don’t mind as much.

There is a role for all of us, a path where we can walk and be joyful. Find your path and have fun as you journey. Do the things that bring you joy and remember that when you bring others joy you can also bring yourself joy.

At the end of the day, do not rely on someone else to make you happy, be your own light.
