It’s in the early hours,
the hours where tired takes over
and missing fades into the background.
Eyes can finally close,
as sweet temporary relief
settles in like cool rain on hot skin.
Dreams can carry one away
making them forget for a time
that pain awaits once more on the rising.
What sweet surrender it is
to release sorrows that weigh heavy
and fly with angels among the clouds.
Alas, dawn arrives;
morning, a time of rising once more,
if but only the ebony could last.
It’s the walk of the broken-hearted,
who smile to comfort others
while their hearts break in repetition.
Emotions ride in on waves,
continually lapping the shore,
battering feelings of loss and loneliness.
Emptiness makes an entrance
as tears dry and refuse to fall,
leaving a hollow shell in the abyss.
A memory slips in undetected
shattering the pretence of normalcy;
cutting one to their knees anew.
Evermore shall grief dwell,
swirling where love resides;
whisked in a never-ending dance.
What then shall one do?
To not love would be wasteful,
for joy is the purpose of us all.
So, then, it is the risk worth taking,
knowing that pain awaits
on the flip side of loves’ album.
Love shall glide in
like a song that settles on the soul,
filling the abyss, if only for a little while.
Pain shall sit on the sidelines;
biding its time in the game of life,
knowing one day it will be called into play.
How long it lasts is unknown.
All must dance with sorrow in turn.
It is the cost of true loving after all.
Yet, heaven holds the keys of hope,
and faith brings peace where sorrow lay
in a silent embrace of eternal love.
So, let the memories rain down
while tears cleanse the shattered heart,
and remember that healing takes time.
