Be kind, show compassion, and give love. That is what we are all called to do. This is what the world needs.
You cannot love and hate at the same time. To live a life of love, and follow God’s command, is to love everyone. Even your enemy. Yes, even them. Loving everyone is not easy, but when I struggle, I look to Jesus. Here is the one who had all the reason not to love, and yet he loved all.
How did he do this? By forgiving. He showed us the way of the cross so that we might be able to do the same. Our crosses all differ from one another, but we bear them just the same. They are ours to carry. Some heavier than others. We carry different ones throughout our lives, but with each one, we must carry it with all the love and forgiveness we can muster. If we don’t, then our sorrows, our fears, all turn to anger and bitterness.
Anger is the way of the enemy. He disguises it well, encouraging us to embrace the immoral and find comfort in the lies laid down before us. When we do this, we veer away from the path of light, even if ever so slightly. One small step leads to another and soon we are running on the wrong track.
I often wonder how a world leader can go to church one day, claiming to be close to God, and then order the killings of innocent people the next. These two things do not go hand in hand and are against the commandment, “Thou shalt not kill.” Nor can I imagine how he can put his own selfish greed above those of the people he is sworn to serve. If leaders lived by the commandments, there would be no more injurious wars. Unfortunately, they are mindless puppets, and the one pulling their strings is the enemy who snickers and dances as they do his bidding instead of God’s.
It is not ours, though, to understand. What is ours is the act of forgiving those that do harm and sin against us and others. Also ours is the act of prayer. Prayer is powerful. It can turn the coldest heart against the enemy and turn it back to God. Prayer heals hearts, brings peace, and carries us closer to God.
These are what the world needs now. Love, forgiveness, and prayers. So, here is my prayer for you, and the rest of the world: May you find calm during your storm through prayer, may peace settle on your soul as you forgive, and may His love alight anew in your heart every day. Amen.
