Words Cannot Soothe

The words seem empty
to one who mourns
the pain to close
to where love was born

They cannot soothe
and cannot erase
that place in my arms
that held their embrace

So rather than words
sit awhile with me
I don’t need entertaining
just some company

The hurt won’t abide
or ever go away
until we hug again
in Heaven one day

Until that time
please understand
each day is a battle
making life seem quite bland

I’ll find moments of joy
and smile when I’m sad
and try to recall
the good times we had

I know I was blessed
I’m thankful indeed
but it isn’t your words
it’s their hug that I need

I know God is good
and it wasn’t His fault
I’m just struggling right now
and the sadness won’t halt

So forgive me my anger
or my short-tempered ways
I’m just trying to get through
the rest of my days
