There is Nothing Like a Friend

Many friends pass through our life as we age. Nothing is better than a friend you can laugh with, cry with … share your secrets with.

I’ve been lucky to have some of these friends throughout my life. Some have stayed, some have moved away, a few have returned home to heaven. Always they were, what I like to call, soul friends; those who need no words to know what mood you’re in.

A good friend trusts you with their deepest pain, knowing you will help them carry it, and they for you when needed. They trust you to offer advice, speak honestly and most of all not to judge.

When a friend pulls away you can feel it and you are sad. Perhaps your friendship has run its course and they are not meant to be in your life. No matter how much you want or try to understand why, unless they tell you, you may never know why they pulled away. Be grateful for the time you’ve had and let them go. If they are meant for you, they will come back. A new friend will come along if they do not.

Friends get mad at each other, but forgive quickly. They know we are all human, we say things without thinking and do not intentionally mean to harm them, or anyone. They’ll tell us when we are wrong and hold us accountable.

A true friend will not push you into something that is harmful, hurtful or illegal. They will warn you away from all these things, even if you don’t want to hear it. They will do their best to stand up for you when you are not standing up for yourself, and they will pick you up when you fall.

There is nothing like a hug from a true friend. This is one of the best hugs in the world, second perhaps only to a parent or spouse. It is safe, it is warmth, and it is always full of love.

My wish for everyone today is that you have at least one soul friend in your life. Why? Because there is nothing like a friend.
