When we are sad, lonely, scared or depressed it is hard to smile but that is when we need to do it the most. That is when we need to smile for no good reason. That is when we need our spirits lifted the most.
Smiling has been proven to help people feel better. I’ve read that it is actually easier for our muscles to smile than it is for them to frown.
Smiling is contagious, it spreads from one person to the next. It also helps push back the sadness or negative emotions we are feeling. Sometimes the smile of another person is what makes us smiles and lifts our spirits, even if just a little. Just a little, is better than not at all. Bit by bit we will start to feel better.
So go ahead smile, and if you need it to be let the smile be your umbrella.
