I can’t live there,
in the land of broken dreams;
where shadowy wisps reach,
daunting and teasing.
Nor can I dwell
in the sea of broken hearts,
where the watery graves run,
crashing and thrashing.
I cannot climb
the mountain of despair,
where snow-crested hills crumble
in dark isolation.
I will not follow you
down the dark and twisty streets,
where shadows fall,
and unseen eyes watch.
I stroll in the meadow,
where the fragrance is sweet,
and the trees offer shade
while the wind whispers in my ear.
I laze on the sands,
where the sun kisses my face,
and the waves gently lull
while the birds joyously sing.
I live in the spirit,
where happiness abounds;
the souls light shines brightly
and peace can be found.
Though I cannot go,
I can still be seen,
present in the light,
always loving, ever hoping.
Yes, I cannot go where you trod,
cannot follow you down that road;
yet, I can remain here, steadfast,
waiting until you return to me.
