Invisible Scars

There are scars all around,
but none which you can see;
for all of life’s strange markings
are deep inside of me.

The voices cry out loudly,
their sound is seldom heard;
and yet I hear them clearly,
can remember each and every word.

The numbers are growing rapidly,
I can see it in their eyes;
the sadness cannot be hidden
beneath the myriad of lies.

The laughter brings sweet relief,
and frees us from our pain;
and all who know, they understand,
that joy will return once again.

Yet, still there are scars around,
but none which you can see;
for all of life’s strange markings,
are deep inside of me.
