Appreciate the Ones Who Care

Loved ones are not around forever; make sure to appreciate the ones who care.

It seems that too often we take the people we care about for granted. If there is one small gift that came with Covid it is in the fact that we realized how important our relationships are. This is more evident when we cannot see the people we care about freely.

It is the ones who love you most that will stand by your side and help you when you need it. It is these same people we want to see, to hug and to spend time with that are denied us during these Covid times. Our separation is to keep us all safe so we can be together once more.

Take note though that negative actions and words can push people away from you. After a while of mistreatment, especially if it is repetitive, people will walk away.

If someone is going out of their way to help you, to spend time with you, make sure they know you appreciate them. Show it by your actions and with your words. Do not be a roller coaster and be nasty one minute and nice the next. No one will believe the kindness is authentic and will worry that the hurtful is not too far away.

I’ve always found it interesting that once we are separated from someone we love we wish nothing more than to have had one last visit, one last hug, one last ‘I love you’. Don’t wait until it is too late, or until you cannot visit. Use the technology available to tell those you care about how you feel; make them aware that you love and appreciate them.

Take care of those who take care of you. They are your family whether by blood or not. Keep in touch, offer assistance if it is within your realm of options and let them know they are not alone. This is especially true for someone living by themselves. Isolation can be difficult but you can make it easier by staying in touch.

We get in life what we give so make sure to appreciate the ones who care. You will find they will appreciate you right back.
