In The Quiet of The Night

In the quiet of the night, my mind wanders
through winding staircases;
visiting all those I have loved,
all that I have done.

Letting go of old hurts,
remembering the innocence
of the child I once was,
understanding how it was all lost.

Undercover of darkness I am free,
free to think my deep thoughts;
free to decipher my feelings,
free to cry, to laugh, to heal.

My imagination takes flight,
creating something out of nothing;
meeting dreams and nightmares
on the steps in between.

In the sleepless hours,
I find comfort in the familiar;
revisiting memories once made,
discarding hurts hurled throughout the day.

Weary eyes ever watchful,
seeing all the possibilities;
dread mingled with excitement,
for a future yet to unfold.

Often I wonder,
how many others are out there,
contemplating and pondering like me,
in the quiet of the night?
